BNSF

Abo Canyon New Mexico

In October of 2006 Janod was called in to scale the slopes of Abo Canyon for BNSF.  Abo Canyon had been a problem for BNSF for many years as a traffic bottleneck.  There was double track on either side of the canyon and the canyon was one of the few areas that still had a single line which slowed down the overall fluidity of traffic in that corridor.  Since the widening of the passage would require drilling and blasting Janod was called in to scale out any loose structures that may be affected by blasting operations.  The work had to be completed under live traffic conditions with an average traffic volume of 30 trains per day.  Since Janod had proven to BNSF in previous sites that they could come up with solutions for complex stabilization problems they were the natural choice for this project.  The project was concluded on time, without incident and on budget to the great satisfaction and relief Tom Schmidt and Craig Slogget.
