ProjectsMines & Quarries Rock Stabilization Projects
Pennsy SupplyThere was a massive Large surface failure of one of the final walls. The failure was in excess of 800,000 cubic yards of material. There were several pieces of mining equipment buried and the section of the quarry where the failure took place was sealed off because there were still some large unstable structures that could still fall, so the area was deemed unsafe. Janod was called in to blast some of the unstable mass and bring it down in a controlled manner. Working in conjunction with Danny Conn the president of Kesco, a highly respected blasting company, we came up with a plan of action to drill and blast part of the large unstable structure and throw the blast towards the unstable material below. In effect the blast was engineered by Danny Conn to use the energy of the explosives to direct that energy and the material towards the massive unstable blocks below and use that material to literally knock it out. The blast was filmed in slow motion in order to fully analyze the blast results. The end result could not have turned out better and all of the project goals were realized.
