RockFalls Preventation Quebec Cartier Mining

Quebec Cartier Mining was the first client Janod worked for in the field of rock stabilization.

Janod was called in after a major rockfall to scale out the slope. Quebec Cartier Minings railway is 270 miles long from Port Cartier to the mine site in Fermont. There are approximately 80 miles of rock cuts on that railway. Due to overloading during blasting operations and extremely harsh climatic conditions in the area there was a considerable amount of work to do. Janod sustained a maintenance contract for 23 years along the railway working on a priority basis.

The rock slopes are now being maintained by the railway themselves using an ex-Janod employee as foreman for the work. We also maintained the rock slopes in the mine from 1990 to 1997. Over the seven year period we scaled out some of the worst areas in the mines.
